The Melee Gala is Manitoba’s premier boxing event, with proceeds going to a different Manitoba-based charity each year. The Melee Gala VI charity of choice was Alpha House, which is dedicated to the empowerment of women and children as they leave abusive relationships and break the cycle of violence. Knowing this, ChangeMakers was happy to both sponsor the event and develop promotional materials pro bono.
In developing the Melee Gala VI brand, we went for a classic boxing feel with bold text and silhouettes of fighters in action to invoke a sense of “Rocky’ and “Raging Bull”. We then applied that brand to a host of materials from posters to the sponsorship package to the corporate challenge package. Each element used dynamic photos of fighters facing off, bringing the excitement and energy of the night to life. Design of the tickets and the event programs completed the package, along with developing images for promoting the night online.
After the last fighter exited the ring at Melee Gala VI, the night had raised approximately 25 thousand dollars for Alpha House – almost $2,000 of which were raised by ChangeMakers’ own Varinder Brar who actually fought in one of the evening’s 11 matches! Though Varinder lost by decision (he wuz robbed we tells ya!), the event was definitely a knockout!
