Gimli Film Festival is Manitoba’s most successful film festival, drawing thousands from all over the globe to enjoy over 100 international independent features, documentaries and shorts. ChangeMakers is proud to sponsor the festival by creating the visual theme to promote the festival on posters, programs and other merchandise – including 2017’s Award-winning homage to Andy Warhol and old Hollywood, “The Gimli Girl.”
For 2018, we took a different approach, drawing inspiration from a more refined art gallery sensibility that reflected the growing prestige of the event while still paying homage to its beach town roots. The abstract imagery captured the festival’s unique combination of sun, waves and movie screens. The use of the waves reflected the energy and excitement of the festival while the circular and square shapes grounded the feeling with a sense of familiarity and warmth. The use of colours drawn from the previous year added continuity.
The client described the new design as “fantastic“ and that feeling was shared by Gimli-goers from all over the world. Pre-sales of 2018 merchandise featuring the “Lakefront Outlines” design (from t-shirts and hoodies to posters and digital media) exceeded expectations. In fact, many people were reportedly purchasing posters with the intention of framing them for their Gimli cabins – a true sign of success!
