Getting Geometric with Gimli Film Festival

One of the greatest things about being a Manitoban is the Gimli Film Festival – a time for movie lovers to come together where the lake, the beach, a starry sky and one iconic screen create a truly unique cinematic experience.

For last year’s festival, we had the immense pleasure of creating the festival’s branding in which we could transmit the cultural power of the event. We drew inspiration from the iconic style that Andy Warhol immortalized and combined it with the joy, pleasure and colours of a classic Gimli summer (you can take a look at last year’s campaign here). As a result of our work, we received recognition from the Summit International Creative Awards as finalist in the Print Material Campaign category.

This year, we’ve once again combined our creativity and passion for the festival to create a fresh new look and feel!

 

Though it was challenging to top last year’s creative, we believe in the power of minimal elements and structures to effectively communicate what the festival is all about. Through the use of geometric figures, waving lines and solid colors, we highlighted the warm, summer sun and the vast and mesmerizing lake with its subtle, moving waves. The use of colours also draws from the previous year to add continuity.

Pre-sales of 2018 merchandise featuring the “Lakefront Outlines” design (from t-shirts and hoodies to posters and digital media) exceeded expectations. In fact, many people were reportedly purchasing posters with the intention of framing them for their Gimli cabins – a true sign of success!

The Gimli Film Festival takes place July 25-29. We hope to see you there!
